The Value of Motion Sensors

While most surveillance systems rely exclusively upon a visual recording, motion sensors can play a valuable role as well. This is because while a camera will record any incursion on a property, it won’t create an automatic alert for it. A motion sensor will be able to detect any changes (motion) in its environment, and set off an alarm, or alert any security guards on site. This can be immensely useful, but you shouldn’t make the mistake of thinking that a motion sensor by itself will provide real protection for a property. It should always only be a single component of a surveillance system and the wider security apparatus of a property.

There are other things that you may want to consider when designing a surveillance system for your property, such as heat sensors, pressure plates, or even an electronic nose. Any one of these will fail in a number of different circumstances, which is why having all of them is so valuable.
